Blog Post 7: Evaluating Multimedia

The model SECTIONS is a very help tool when evaluating multimedia contents for learning purposes. It includes the perspectives of teaching, content, and the learner. I think the harder parts to assess are the interaction and the security. The interactions between the learners and the contents differ by individuals as all learners would have different habits when learning and assessing contents they are provided with. As teachers, it is not easy to determine which types learning contents to use when there are many learners with various needs. As for the security, I think it is a technical issue that needs to be generalized so that learners could have a safer online space for learning and communicating. It is hard for individual teachers to ensure the security use of certain websites or resources for learning and especially there are so many contents that are great for the students’ learning.

TPACK is an interesting way to interpret contents and I find it helpful for understanding the design and use of technology in educational contexts. The integrated use of the content, pedagogy, and technology in learning could be challenging but also interactive with maximized participation.

  1. Hi , Qiaoyang
I understand that people need to consider eight factors when using educational technology and media for teaching and learning (based on the SECTIONS model). You also do a good job of explaining why you feel that interaction and security are difficult to assess. However, I also think that organizational issues are also difficult to observe clearly .Can you tell me about your opinion on organisational issues?

  2. Hi , Qiaoyang

I very much agree with your understanding of multimedia learning. You explained the 8 factors of multimedia learning in very concise language. You focused on interactivity and security, which are also very important for the convenience of students. What do you understand in this regard?

  3. Hi Qiaoyang,
I really agree with your understanding of multimedia learning. I think the SECTIONS model is indeed a great tool as it has many aspects that enable us to achieve our learning goals and by asking questions we can improve our content and information. The safety of multimedia learning is really an issue to think about, there are all kinds of people on the internet, and some will make insulting comments or students will access unsafe websites and have their personal information stolen. Do you think there is any way to avoid this?
